How to Automatically Remove Silence in Premiere Pro (Free Plugin)

If you edit talking-head videos, tutorials, podcasts, YouTube videos, or short-form content in Premiere Pro, cutting dead air by hand can eat up a surprising amount of your editing time. In this tutorial, I’m showing you how to automatically remove silence in Premiere Pro using AutoEdit’s free Silence Cutter.

The tool is built directly into AutoEdit Creator Mode and can detect pauses in your footage, remove them from the timeline, and automatically add crossfades between cuts. That means fewer harsh audio edits and less repetitive cleanup before you get into the actual creative part of the edit.

How to automatically remove silence in Premiere Pro

After installing AutoEdit, open Premiere Pro and go to Window > Extensions > AutoEdit Creator Mode. Inside the Free Forever tools section, you’ll find the Silence Cutter.

You can choose how aggressively the tool detects silence and adjust the pause duration in milliseconds. Once you click Remove Silences, AutoEdit analyzes the timeline and cuts the detected pauses automatically.

One of the most useful parts of the workflow is that AutoEdit also adds crossfades between the new cuts. This helps reduce hard audio transitions and clipping sounds that you would otherwise have to clean up manually.

90+ free Premiere Pro presets and motion graphics

The free plugin also includes more than 90 editing presets and motion graphics templates. These include caption-style graphics, underline animations, Apple-style motion graphics, and other MOGRTs that can be applied directly to your Premiere Pro timeline.

Going beyond silence removal with Claude AI

Silence cutting is useful, but it only solves one part of a rough cut. Videos can still have bad takes, repeated lines, filler words, and mistakes that are not defined by silence alone.

AutoEdit Creator Mode also includes a paid Claude AI editing workflow. You can give Claude instructions such as keeping only the last takes or removing bad takes, choose the content type and pacing, and then generate a rough cut.

Claude transcribes the audio and analyzes the context of what you’re saying instead of relying only on pauses. It can identify repeated takes and mistakes, then suggest cuts directly inside the plugin. You can review those decisions, keep or cut individual lines, and continue refining the edit through chat before approving the changes.

This workflow is especially useful for YouTube editors, content creators, podcasters, TikTok editors, Reels editors, and anyone editing dialogue-heavy content in Premiere Pro. AutoEdit is designed to help you build a rough cut and automate repetitive editing tasks while keeping you in control of the final edit.
